HI, I’M DAN EMODI

I’m a husband, a father (of three), a traveler, a passionate storyteller, an international speaker DanEmodi_009(check out my TED Talk), a motor-head and a Marketing executive. I served on huge tech conglomerates and led the Marketing and Business Development of small and aspiring tech start-ups.

Losing both my parents I came to realize that we all have a certain and limited time on this earth and
that the clock is ticking…

So being a restless, motivated and curious person, I decided early-on to balance my professional career with few selected diversions. I took on Diving, Cooking, Baking, Race Driving, Photography, and Travel – preferably to far away places with poor data coverage and no Starbucks.

Over the years I have traveled and photographed more than 50 countries and hundreds of places. I ventured into the eastern jungles of Burma, sailed down the Mekong, climbed up Tanzania’s Mt. Meru, explored Tokyo’s surreal Tsukiji fish market, navigated the narrow canyons of Liming, China, rode the arid highlands of Guatemala, biked the rugged trails of Nepal’s Annapurna route, traveled through the chalk mountains of Vinales, Cuba, rested on the paradise beaches of El-Nido, Philippines… The list is quite long indeed.

Every picture tells a story

Armed with a Nikon camera, I recorded the experiences and “feel” of the places I visited. To each and every picture I took, I incorporated my own personal angle. The result is my interpretation of the place, the action, and the people.

As a public speaker and an avid traveler, many have asked me over the years to lecture on the places and experiences I recorded. And so I had. Other fellow travelers approached me for tips and best practices. I have always obliged. Yet, no matter how many times I spoke to forums of varied sizes, I could never reach out to the audience beyond the room.

Through my eye?? Shouldn’t it be “eyes” instead?

Unlike other cameras, shooting with a DSLR camera requires the photographer to close one eye while framing the picture through the viewfinder. All the images you see on this blog were therefore taken literally through my eye – left eye to be precise. Besides, it rhymes pretty well. 😉

Through my eye aims to open my personal experiences, angle, and memories to a wider audience. In this blog, you’ll find my best most memorable pictures combined with the stories behind each and every one of them. They say “Sharing is Caring”. So, with your permission, I would like to take you on a journey through those remarkable places, tell their story through my own subjective interpretation.

New chapter every week

Every week “See through my eye” will feature a selected photo from my personal archive and will tell the story behind it. We Kick off with a journey into the depths of the Burmese Jungle and the meaning of adulthood. We will visit a behind the scene view of a Rajasthani Wedding somewhere off the map in the big and dry Thar Desert, and join a solitary visit to the most awe-striking waterfalls in the world.

Special places” is a section dedicated to all the valuable tips, advice and know-how I collected. Sort of my personal “cookbook”. We launch with seven essential tips to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, plus one additional tip that nobody seems to follow.
Special places will be updated and expanded with new sites and advice on an on-going basis.

Be sure to subscribe and get the latest updates directly. It’s quite easy and painless. Just fill out the SUBSCRIBE box below.
