CELEBRATING ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

When I published my very first post a year ago, I wasn’t really sure where this experience would take me. The original idea was to take you – my readers – to see the world the way I saw it through the lens of my camera. I invited you to take a journey, but the reality is I was also taking a journey of my self – shading some light on my own experiences and memories. It was, and still is, a fascinating experience. During this year I published 38 posts covering five continents and 22 countries.

We went up to the top of Africa and stumbled down to the deepest canyon of Peru. We traveled south to Sydney and ventured north to Norway. We survived the stifling heat of the Jordanian deserts and shivered in the cold summer of Western Ireland. We were awed by the unbelievable rites of the Kumbh Mela, and took advantage of the relaxing familiarities of the Tuscany hills. So many adventures, and we only just began.

To celebrate the first anniversary of “Through my Eye” I decided to feature the best posts so far as chosen by you.
Let the countdown begin…

5. Things to do before you die

A hot air balloon flight above the thousand Pagodas of Bagan is a journey of a lifetime. There very few things in this world that would live such an everlasting impression. You thought so too.

4. Mykonos lessons – learned the hard way.

Think about the famous 70’s hit Dreadlock Holiday reenacted 40 years later in Greece. Rain, plastic, and gay orgies. All things you wanted out of your Greek vacation – and then some. Not for lighthearted.

3. The complete driver’s guide to the Austrian Alps

Looking to mix twisty roads, unparalleled panoramas and lots of high-octane gasoline? This post is for you!
There’s no better (and faster) way to experience the high Alps of Tirol. Not for people with families, expensive bicycles, or suspended driver’s license.

2. The most horrible city in the world

If you thought your city slums look bad, this place would make any Skid Row look like the Villa D’Este . I kid you not. I can only explain its tremendous popularity by readers’ fatal attraction to stench, decay, rot, chaos, despair, and pollution. This post would never have been so popular otherwise. Go figure…

Before we go to the first ranking post. Here are some great posts that did not register much interest from this blog’s readers – I cannot understand why. To try and rectify this, I’m posting them here again for your re-consideration.

38. Holi Wars

Riding through the backcountry of Nepal, we came across lots of tiny hamlets and one annual Hindi rite we will never forget. Heck, it took us a couple of hours just to wipe the curry powder off our faces.

37. He’s not heavy, he’s my saint

Today you cannot bear witness to Antigua’s Semana Santa. This amazing Latino-Catholic rite had become too popular for its own good. Ten years ago the crowds were very thinner, we were almost the only foreigners around. Check and see what you are missing.

And now, for this year winner…

1. The complete driver’s guide to the Black Forest

Four 911s and a thousand Kilometers of Germany’s finest driving roads. Very few things get better than this. The guide became an instant hit and continues to draw high traffic 11 months after it was initially published. this could be because all of you are Black Forest fans or perhaps because it includes 7 of the very best Schwartzwald driving roads and 8 important tips to get you back home in one piece.
